As its Artistic Director, Gustavo Dudamel led Venezuela’s Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra to international renown through recordings and tours across Europe. For the first time since 2018, the orchestra and Dudamel reunite in Los Angeles for a festive night at the Bowl. Opening with a selection of symphonic dances from around the world, Dudamel continues the dance theme with Ravel’s entrancing and sensuous Boléro.
Yuja Wang, a regular collaborator of both Dudamel and the Bolívars, returns for one of her passionate Romantic specialties in Tchaikovsky’s First Piano Concerto. The piece has been a calling card for Wang since she stepped in on short notice for an ailing pianist in 2007 with her trademark mix of flamboyant poignancy, which caused the audience “to stand and roar by the end of the final movement” (Philadelphia Inquirer).
